Custom Home
Oakland, CA

This three story, 3,400 square foot home was custom designed and built by Jim Winslow (ICG Project Construction Superintendent) in 2000 / 2001 for Gene St.Ong. Gene is a graduate Civil Engineer and Principal Owner of St. Onge and Associates, a Civil Engineering firm headquartered in Oakland. St Onge and Associates is the Engineering firm most often responsible for providing the Civil Engineering stamp required by the State on all ICG projects built in the state according to state and local building codes and approval processes.

Solution / Benefits: As can be seen in the photos in the gallery, this home was built on an extremely steep "up slope" lot in the Oakland Hills. The steel pier / steel floor system employed throughout enabled the home to be built on the site at a cost that simply would not have been possible had the house been designed and built in conventional concrete foundation, stick-built / wood frame fashion. Perhaps most importantly, the house is situated right on top of an earthquake fault funning though the Oakland hills. The steel structure of the house gives in substantial added safety with respect to earthquake considerations.
